Summary

A revolution brewing for generations has begun in fire。 It will end in blood。

The Free Navy - a violent group of Belters in black-market military ships - has crippled the Earth and begun a campaign of piracy and violence among the outer planets。 The colony ships heading for the thousand new worlds on the far side of the alien ring gates are easy prey, and no single navy remains strong enough to protect them。

James Holden and his crew know the strengths and weaknesses of this new force better than anyone。 Outnumbered and outgunned, the embattled remnants of the old political powers call on the Rocinante for a desperate mission to reach Medina Station at the heart of the gate network。

But the new alliances are as flawed as the old, and the struggle for power has only just begun。 As the chaos grows, an alien mystery deepens。 Pirate fleets, mutiny and betrayal may be the least of the Rocinante's problems。 And in the uncanny spaces past the ring gates, the choices of a few damaged and desperate people may determine the fate of more than just humanity。

I always enjoy this series。 There were perhaps a few too many perspectives in this one though。 I found it hard to keep up with the names in places。

3。5 stars。 Still pretty good but probably my least favorite of the series so far。

This definitely felt like part 2 of Nemesis Games。 The number of characters narrating the chapters was a record-high。 I mean, 19 characters! Insane, and it’s even more amazing how well they all fit together。 Each chapter still had a surprise ending that connected it to the next one。I rarely find series where I give each book 5-star reviews, and this might be the longest one。 Well-deserved though。 This definitely felt like part 2 of Nemesis Games。 The number of characters narrating the chapters was a record-high。 I mean, 19 characters! An excellent book。 The series is gaining momentum and by this book (#6 in the series), there is so much that’s happened。 I liked that this book was largely a continuation of the events from book 5。 In a 9-book series, there is room to have villains and events last more than one book, so I liked that Marco stuck around and that the world is still freshly dealing with the major events of earth from the last book。 I also like the way the rest of the series is poised to continue and I’m eager to dis An excellent book。 The series is gaining momentum and by this book (#6 in the series), there is so much that’s happened。 I liked that this book was largely a continuation of the events from book 5。 In a 9-book series, there is room to have villains and events last more than one book, so I liked that Marco stuck around and that the world is still freshly dealing with the major events of earth from the last book。 I also like the way the rest of the series is poised to continue and I’m eager to discover the answers to the questions the book has posed: What is eating the ships that pass through the gates? What do the Martians want with the protomolecule? What is occurring and developing on Laconia? What are Duarte’s intentions? Exciting series! 。。。more

Excellent continuation。 This book is as far as the TV series got, so the three books after this will be totally new for me。 There’s a 30 year time jump after this book, which I’m excited to see。 Continued stellar narration by Jefferson Mays for the audiobook。

The Expanse has very quickly become my favorite sci-fi series of all time。 Every book manages to up the stakes。 Filled with characters you love and some you love to hate there is never a dull moment。 Babylon's Ashes is probably my favorite of the series so far but if I'm being honest I've said that with almost all the previous books as well。 I'll be jumping genres for a quick palate cleanser not because I really need one but because I know I'm fast approaching the end and I'm just not ready to s The Expanse has very quickly become my favorite sci-fi series of all time。 Every book manages to up the stakes。 Filled with characters you love and some you love to hate there is never a dull moment。 Babylon's Ashes is probably my favorite of the series so far but if I'm being honest I've said that with almost all the previous books as well。 I'll be jumping genres for a quick palate cleanser not because I really need one but because I know I'm fast approaching the end and I'm just not ready to say goodbye to these books yet。 。。。more

Multiple new characters, some for only one chapter, made this book slightly overwhelming。 Thankfully, the old stalwarts were still present to help ground the book。 Pa is emerging as a new favorite。

WHERE ARE THE ALIENS??????????????????

Babylons’ Ashes was one of the best entries in the franchise, highlighting the intelligence of the crew and how they navigate and manipulate difficult challenges that they come across, the rise of the free navy, the vastness of space and the gates。 This works as ending on its own even with three other books left in the series。

A great conclusion (?) to an epic journey。 Can't wait to see how 30 years shapes this Universe that feels so real and so well articulated。 A great conclusion (?) to an epic journey。 Can't wait to see how 30 years shapes this Universe that feels so real and so well articulated。 。。。more

The fallout after the game-changing Nemesis Games is compellingly messy, with a couple genuinely thrilling space battles thrown in for good measure。 The deux ex machina that wraps it all up is, frankly, bizarre, but the setup for the next novel is so good, so enticing, that it’s hard to be mad about another dip into the inexplicable-alien-technology (?) well。

(Audiobook) 6 books in and still pretty interesting。 Aliens, Advance Tech, and some interplanetary politics to keep me on my toes about what's going to happen next。 Can't wait to see what book 7 has in store。 (Audiobook) 6 books in and still pretty interesting。 Aliens, Advance Tech, and some interplanetary politics to keep me on my toes about what's going to happen next。 Can't wait to see what book 7 has in store。 。。。more

While still excellent, this didn't seem to have quite the same pace as the previous books。 It may be because there seemed to be quite a few more active characters。 While still excellent, this didn't seem to have quite the same pace as the previous books。 It may be because there seemed to be quite a few more active characters。 。。。more

I would say more of a 3。5 because some POV chapters were harder to get through than others。

I am really enjoying this series。 I can hardly wait to finish one book and begin the next so I can discover what will happen to the Rosinante and her crew。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I was hoping to read this before I watched the final season of the tv show, but it didn't happen。 So, I was very glad to have Alex where he belonged。 And I just kept thinking Michio was Drummer。 I think this book was better written than the last couple were。 On top the next book! This one was so lack luster。 The combat was cool, but there was so many characters with little problems and constant drama that I just didn’t care half the time。 Lots of character building for every character, and many just ended up dieing so those 5 chapters that was spent talking about their relationship dynamics was just even more pointless。 It seemed like this one and the last book were filler that was trying to get characters together。

⭐️⭐️⭐️Plot: In book 6 of The Expanse series, Babylon's Ashes follows directly on from the events that occurred in book 5 (Nemesis Games)。 The Belter-run Free Navy is using its stolen ships to organise attacks on what's left of the Earth and the Martian Fleet, as well as the relatively defenseless colony ships heading for the rings。 James Holden and crew are once again called upon to head out in an attempt to protect what's left of human existence in space。Genre: Science fiction, action & adventu ⭐️⭐️⭐️Plot: In book 6 of The Expanse series, Babylon's Ashes follows directly on from the events that occurred in book 5 (Nemesis Games)。 The Belter-run Free Navy is using its stolen ships to organise attacks on what's left of the Earth and the Martian Fleet, as well as the relatively defenseless colony ships heading for the rings。 James Holden and crew are once again called upon to head out in an attempt to protect what's left of human existence in space。Genre: Science fiction, action & adventure, space opera。 ----------Thoughts While Reading:Thoughts at 100%:1。 First of all, the sheer number of perspectives in Babylon's Ashes is absolutely insane。 Normally books in the Expanse series will have 4-5 perspectives at most; Babylon's Ashes had 19!! Some of them were from characters we know well, so that wasn't a problem as such; but all the others were just too much。 The sheer volume of character perspectives was just overwhelming, and I hated starting a new chapter wondering if this character had been introduced yet or not (mostly not)。 This really broke up the flow of the story for me because I was constantly getting confused about whose perspective I was reading, who they were, which group they represented, and where they sat in terms of the rest of the characters and the overall story。 It was exhausting。 2。 I finished this book about two weeks ago, and I'm only just getting around to writing the review now (yes I have been a mixture of busy and slack lol)。 I found myself having to go look up plot summaries of this book because absolutely nothing from Babylon's Ashes had stuck in my brain。 And yes, I have read quite a few books since then, but I remember other books of the Expanse series quite well, so that's not the issue。 3。 This was probably my least favourite of the Expanse books to date, which is really disappointing。 Still, it's still an Expanse book, so the writing was good, and it was very readable。 I guess the problem is that it's also very forgettable 🤷🏼‍♀️ ----------Conclusion and Recommendation:I'm giving Babylon's Ashes 3 stars。 It just didn't do it for me like the others did。 Don't get me wrong, this was not a bad book by any means; it just missed the mark in my opinion。 My main issues were the overwhelming number of perspectives, and how the first half or so of the book was quite slow with not a lot happening。 Still, this is an Expanse book; it was written well (as per usual), and it was enjoyable。 Just not as enjoyable as any of the others in the series。Obviously Babylon's Ashes is still worth reading, I would just say don't go in with high hopes; that way you won't be disappointed。 。。。more

Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are at it again in what is perhaps the largest scale conflict in the series to date。 Babylon's Ashes builds on the story about the attack on Earth by the Free Navy introduced in Nemesis Games。 It introduces the ever present question of how to win a war against a seemingly formidable enemy and ideology while fighting off the extinction of Earth。Overall, an excellently paced book from start to admittedly not entirely unexpected ending。 I look forward to con Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are at it again in what is perhaps the largest scale conflict in the series to date。 Babylon's Ashes builds on the story about the attack on Earth by the Free Navy introduced in Nemesis Games。 It introduces the ever present question of how to win a war against a seemingly formidable enemy and ideology while fighting off the extinction of Earth。Overall, an excellently paced book from start to admittedly not entirely unexpected ending。 I look forward to continuing this series and finding out the shape of the galaxy will change moving forward。 。。。more

Everybody seems to have different opinions about the high and low points of this series。 This was one of my least favorite。 We re-tread a number of tired plot points, and the solutions arrived at just seemed hard to believe。 Still, a fun read。

An End and A Start。 The Major players in the conflict between the Belt, Mars and Earth must work together or come to an end。 I highly recommend this book and the series。

This wasn't too bad, it starts off right where the previous book ends。 Then it spreads across the whole system, there are nineteen different POVs in this book。 It's a lot to keep track of, some new and some old characters。 I thought it was kinda neat in the beginning, but then about halfway it got kind of exhausting。 There was a character that appeared that I didn't recognize at first on how and why they knew the information that they did。 Eventually I realized who it was as they were a backgrou This wasn't too bad, it starts off right where the previous book ends。 Then it spreads across the whole system, there are nineteen different POVs in this book。 It's a lot to keep track of, some new and some old characters。 I thought it was kinda neat in the beginning, but then about halfway it got kind of exhausting。 There was a character that appeared that I didn't recognize at first on how and why they knew the information that they did。 Eventually I realized who it was as they were a background character in another POV。 I understand why it was written this way, so we as readers could see all the different perspectives from around the system and the affect of war on each place。 But I feel like maybe it could have been condensed a little bit。 The book would be much shorter if some of those POVs were taken out (Anna, Namono, and Prax come to mind or some of the other characters that only got one chapter。)It was nice to finally get into Michio's head, as she's the Drummer from the show (or better Drummer is her)。 I loved seeing things from Bobbie and Avasarala's POVs again, as they are my favorite characters。 (view spoiler)[One thing I really like about this book is the way Fred died。 In the show, there were some traitors on Tycho and he got shot。 In the book, it felt a little more human - it was an accident, a heart attack at the wrong time。 Something that could happen to any of them when they travel。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Politics, War, and SpaceThese books keep on giving, this one is no exception。 Love a book that asks "How do you live a moral life in a colonial society?" And doesn't answer, but explores, all while delivering high drama and space-battle derring-do。 Politics, War, and SpaceThese books keep on giving, this one is no exception。 Love a book that asks "How do you live a moral life in a colonial society?" Otra entrega de la saga otra novela aluciflipante。 En especial he disfrutado el desarrollo de personajes que no pudo tener la última temporada de la serie debido a los pocos episodios que tenía。Naomi MVP otra vez, a todo esto。

My least favorite so far, so I guess I’m just here for the aliens。 Humans bore me。 Which made this great for falling asleep to。
